First elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 2002, Mundelein native Ed Sullivan has quickly made a name for himself in the Illinois General Assembly; establishing a strong record on fiscal responsibility, public safety, education, domestic violence, and property tax issues.
Since 2003, Representative Sullivan has sponsored legislation protecting children from convicted sex offenders, defending our natural resources, and successfully working with his House Republican colleagues to block major tax increases on Illinois families proposed by the Democrat majority in Springfield. During his service in the General Assembly, Rep. Sullivan has been recognized as a leading expert on revenue and budget issues. In addition, Sullivan currently serves as the Republican Spokesman on the Consumer Protection Committee and a member on the Revenue & Finance Committee.
Rep. Sullivan has continued to focus on the needs and priorities of taxpayers and families in Lake County. He remains committed to such important issues as property tax relief, local transportation needs, public safety, health care, domestic violence, and ensuring a quality education for our children. One of Rep. Sullivan’s landmark legislative achievements in 2009 was the passage of Illinois’ new Anti-Gang initiative, establishing a unique pilot program to crack down on local gang activity through innovative use of the internet. In 2010 he sponsored a House Resolution to audit all spending to recover over paid funds and eliminate waste in the budget.
Representative Sullivan has received numerous honors during his legislative career, including being named by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police as the Public Official of the Year; the Nature Conservancy’s Acorn Award recipient; and the 2004, 2006 & 2008 Illinois Farm Bureau’s Activator Award for being a Friend of Agriculture, 2007 Libertyville Boys Club Appreciation Award, 2007 Lake County Crime Stoppers Certificate of Appreciation, Respiratory Health Association 2008 “Lung Health Champion Award”, Illinois Bankers Association “2008 Outstanding Legislator”, 2008 NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award, 2008 Lake County Property Investors Association Award of Appreciation, 2007-2008 & 2009-2010 Illinois Chamber of Commerce Champion of Free Enterprise Award, Fremont School District 79 Certificate of Appreciation.
After receiving a B.A. in History and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois in 1991, Sullivan served as an aide to U.S. Congressman Phil Crane (IL-8). In 1993, he was elected to his first term as the Fremont Township Assessor, a position to which he has been successively re-elected five times since.
Representative Sullivan is a graduate of Carmel High School and is proud to represent his hometown in Springfield. He and his wife, Trish, a Family Nurse Practitioner, reside in Mundelein with their daughter Kaileigh and son Edwin.
Sullivan is currently a candidate for re-election to the Illinois House of Representatives in 2010.
